Judge sanctions WTS - $4k per day penalty for not producing sex abuse documents
by Simon injudge sanctions jehovah's witnesses.
imposes $4000-a-day penalty for not producing documents in sex-abuse case.
by dorian hargrove, june 24, 2016. a san diego superior court judge has ordered the church of jehovah's witnesses, also known as the watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, to pay $4000 a day for every day that it fails to produce documents requested in a civil lawsuit brought by former parishioner, osbaldo padron, who claims a church elder sexually abused him when he was seven years old.. in a june 23 ruling, expected to be made final today, judge richard strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a 1997 body of elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders.. over the course of the past year, the watchtower society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case.. in march 2015, the church turned over a heavily redacted version of the letter.

@ Anders. Thanks for the link. Check your messages
@ Data-dog I just feel comfortable sharing some things publicly, and don't feel comfortable sharing other things. Not to hard to understand I'm sure.
I am definitely anxious to see how this goes. THIS LAST SUNDAYS WATCHTOWER included respecting the police. I didn't read it but it must have been a "superior authorities" type thing. Ironically, apparently they have no problem disobeying these authorities when it suits them, behind the guise of the very document penned by Satan himself (constitution?).
I had a friend mention he has a hard time with the police.....I linked the article and said ....."I think you are off the hook. Apparently you can choose what respect actually means and doesn't mean......and it doesn't always mean obey."

How do you deal with depression?
by BlackWolf ini'm currently going through a bout of depression and my eating disorder has gotten worse.
ever since my parents actually told me that they are going to kick me out when i turn 18 i've felt kind of hopeless about my life.
my parents won't take me to the doctor because the psychiatrists won't have my "best interests" aka jw crap in mind, because really that's the root of all my problems.. i'm wondering if any of you guys have any advice with dealing with depression?

BW,
Your situation must be rough. There is a silver lining. Many of us got out WELL past your age. Making friends can always seem daunting, but trust as an adult its even harder. Try to get ACTIVE. Especially when you are young, getting int he sun, and running, or doing weights or something like that.....can really affect modd and make you feel better. Will your parents let you join a gym? It can really make a difference. PM me if you like.
In addition, just be excited about your plans come past high school. The world is your oyster! Lots of unknowns and fears.....but you got this!
I really can't believe your parents already announced to you they are kicking you out at 18. What assholes.

So Are Inactives officially SHUNNED?
by minimus ini've read here that inactives are the same as disfellowshipped, treatment wise.
is that correct or did i misread it??
thanks......

We are not in outright "shun the inactive", territory. Basically, they kept it arms length wnough to be able to say that jsnt a requirement. However, we know the drill. This is typical WT doubletalk.
While i have no experienced increased shunning by my family and friends that are still in that havent chosen to do so yet......it doesnt mean it isnt coming. Lets be honest, its not exactly new light, and its just a couple, sentences on a friday. They could have been sleeping or in the bathroom

Vidiot and OC,
When those words were spoken I am sure my mouth was just hanging open like a dummy. It was too rich!
There is more but I can't say publicly. Truth is, they don't have the resources to fight all the cases. They have several high power firms across the US they use.

I would like to correct something. WT doesn't only use its own lawyers. I know one of the lawyers for an outside firm that handles their cases (at there internal staffs direction). His words......."they are a great client. they pay their bills on time, and they are always in trouble."
Once a court makes a judgement, that judgement is enforceable through liens. More likely, they will just write the checks and continue to appeal. At some point the strategy is to throw more and more resources against the court, to wear them down. I hope SD doesn't go for it. So far, they seem to not be having any of this.
I need to ask again......has this letter even been leaked here?

Im pretty sure this fine isnt in perpetuity. At some point they would be found in contempt. The purpose of the fine is to force action. If nothing happens it will escalate.
I do have a question though......has this 1997 document ever leaked to us? Seems like the kind of thing that would have.
